Register for September 24, 2016 class

September class is a special once a year event. There will be a fresh indigo vat in addition to my traditional vat. If you like to play with plants and like pale blue, you do not want to miss this. I grow indigo outside my studio and we will harvest and prepare it to use in class.

Indigo

Want some childlike magic back into your life? Let’s experiment with Shibori, the ancient Japanese art of dyeing natural fabrics by using resist techniques (folding, clamping, stitching). This is a 6-hour hands on exploration of indigo dyeing where you will learn the fundamentals of this historic pattern making process. Dye natural fiber goods in a plant derived indigo vat, yielding amazing shades of blue. You will experiment with various techniques on small pieces of cloth, then choose a pattern to create and dye a square tea towel and a silk scarf to take home. No experience necessary and there will be some surprises along the way! Indigo dye and tools are covered in the class fee and additional $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor at time of workshop. Bring a sack lunch and wear comfortable clothes you do not mind getting blue. Beth Mastrude is an award winning textile artist, a 2014, 2015, 2016 Open Studios participant, and a facilitator sharing her passion for textile arts with others. Be prepared to fall in love with indigo!
All materials, tools and what is needed is included in the ticket price.
Wear clothes and shoes you do not mind decorating with a random indigo splash or two, apron, rubber gloves and lunch to play with the magic blue of indigo. I look forward to sharing one of my passions with you and having you dip your shibori wrapped pieces into my twin indigo vats. See you soon.
Warm regards,
Beth
